My father reminded me tonight of this incredible speech by Martin Luther King, Jr: Beyond Vietnam -- A Time to Break Silence. Every year around this time, it is re-broadcast on local public radio. And though it was originally delivered in 1967, it is inspiring, moving and still very true...just sub "Iraq" for "Vietnam."
Like many nights, my parents sit together in the living room and listen to the radio. Last year was my first to sit with them, glasses of wine in hand, and listen to this speech. I'd heard it before, but there is something...special...about the ritual of taking the time to really listen.
Try it at home:
Turn the lights down. Grab a glass of tea or wine, or anything else that warms your belly. Gather a few of the people you love (or like). Lay back, lay down.
And listen...
